Greener Govan community research
Greener Govan was a large scale community project exploring residents relationship with nature. The Open University, Verture and Impact Arts worked with community groups and residents across Govan. Through feedback and creative session, a body of work emerged sharing how people felt about their green spaces.
River Clyde concertina, Craft Cafe, Impact Arts
The community group the Craft Cafe, Impact Arts, is based in Govan, besides the industrial river Clyde. Together, we explored the identity of a river and the life forms it could support if restored from centuries of pollution. Using both written word and mono-print, a collaborative large scale zine was displayed on the Tallship museum, on the river Clyde.
Tree mapping GALLANT
Teaming with GALLANT, we worked with community groups in Govan, mapping local trees. Exploring different tree species, what types of urban wildlife they support, and how crucial trees are in preventing climate change. The variety of tree themed artwork has been mapped within the communiapp, where nature in local neighborhoods can be recorded.
The green room Art in Hospital
At Greenfield Park care-home and through the charity Art in Hospital, a new green space was created with the residents where once a concrete square stood. We planted and grew, then using the the flowers and foliage we had grown we got creative with photography and drawing. The artwork was then exhibited indoors, bringing aspects of the natural environment inside. The project gave multiple benefits for the residents; impacting health, stimulation, creativity and the power to better their environment through a connection with nature.
Sign-making Urban Roots
Sign-making for the Urban Roots community garden’s main base. We worked with a group of children, exploring mark-making and collage and inspired by both the insects and flowers of the community garden.
ZINES, Impact Arts
The super powers of Bonnie was a zine made by the Craft Cafe community group, Impact Arts, where Bonnie is the resident Therapet. Quotes and drawings were gathered to reflect the healing powers that occurs through connecting with animals. Bonnie is a registered Therapet, she visits care homes and attends the Craft alongside participants, providing companionship.
The Craft Cafe members collectively made a zine through a series of drawings and creative writing. The ‘portrait’ expresses the joyous affects of creativity and companionship.
